Miles Geldard   CEO   Miles has decades of experience in finance, is a committed conservationist, and has worked and lived across Africa. Having worked as an adviser to the Central Bank of Botswana, as a global multi-asset investment manager with JPMorgan, and, most recently, as Head of Strategy at Jupiter Asset Management. Miles is based in Kenya. He is a pilot, and takes time to fly elephant patrols.

John Stephenson   John is a former senior diplomat with significant experience in international and multi-lateral relations. He has worked extensively in Africa, an experience which stimulated an abiding passion for conservation.

Dr. Winnie Kiiru  EPI  Senior Technical Advisor   Winnie is a well known wildlife biologist who has been working to protect Kenya’s wildlife for 20 years. Winnie previously served as the regional representative of the UK based charity, Born Free Foundation and as a Trustee of Kenya Wildlife Service.

Dr. Hugo Jachmann     NEAP Coordinator   Hugo is a wildlife ecologist with a Ph.D. in elephant ecology and more than 35 years of experience with wildlife research, management and law enforcement. Hugo’s last long-term posting was with the Netherlands Development Organisation in Ghana, seconded to the Wildlife Division as Senior Technical Advisor wildlife management.

He has 26 years of wide-ranging experience in conservation policy and strategy, as well as program management. Dolmia mainly works for the Chadian Government, but also collaborates with various international institutions and NGOs.

Ruth Musgrave   Technical Director for Stockpile Management   Ruth has a Masters in Conservation and over 15 years experience working in conservation. She worked with WCS in Gabon and Tanzania for over 12 years, in a variety of roles predominately focused on elephants and supporting law enforcement.

Barnaby Phillips   Director of Communications   Barnaby spent 15 years at the BBC reporting from Africa. He was based in Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria and South Africa. In 2006 he joined Al Jazeera English, reporting from around the world. After 27 years in journalism, Barnaby joined the EPI in 2018. He’s excited at the opportunity to try and influence events, having spent so long reporting on them.

Kiprotich Biwott   Inventory & Technology Lead   With a background in Applied Computer Science, Kiprotich is based in Kenya as a senior project manager for Bityarn Consult, with experience implementing information systems for wildlife protection, including the EPI’s ivory Stockpile Management System.

Sophie Ledger   Conservation Programme Manager   Sophie is a conservation biologist with a particular interest in African wildlife and conservation. Alice Railton   Operations Manager   After studying the politics of sub-Saharan Africa at the University of Bristol, Alice worked in brand communications and strategy for international clients including Heineken, Coca Cola and Unilever. Following this she joined a social enterprise to build a business framework to address human-elephant conflict through community livelihoods, as well as managing licensing initiatives for the Maasai tribe.

Over the last 10 years, she has delivered projects dealing with natural resource management conflict, ecotourism, the illegal wildlife trade, ivory trafficking and local community livelihoods from Ethiopia to South Africa and across East Africa.
