The EPIF Welcomes Minister Sharon Ikeazor to the Leadership Council

The Elephant Protection Initiative (EPI) Foundation is delighted to announce that Nigeria’s Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Honourable Sharon Ikeazor, has accepted an invitation from the Foundation’s Board to join its Leadership Council.

In warmly welcoming Minister Ikeazor to the Leadership Council, the EPI Foundation’s CEO, John Scanlon AO, said, ‘Sharon Ikeazor is universally recognised as a dedicated and highly effective Minister, advocate and campaigner for the environment and wildlife conservation, both in Nigeria and at the international level. She has enjoyed a distinguished career, and her vast expertise and inspiring vision will be invaluable to the EPI Foundation.’

‘This is an exciting opportunity for me to help steer wildlife conservation policy from within a unique alliance of African countries’, said Minister Ikeazor. ‘The EPI is dedicated to conserving elephants and ensuring a better future for people who live near them, and I wholeheartedly share those objectives’, she added.

Minsiter Ikeazor, who has worked as a lawyer and management consultant, previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of State for the Environment. Other members of the Leadership Council are H.E The Former President of Botswana, Ian Khama, H.E The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Fatima Maada Bio, H.E The Former First Lady of Kenya, Margaret Kenyatta, H.E the Former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Desalegn, and Gabon’s Minister of Forests, Oceans, Environment and Climate Change, Lee White.

The EPI Foundation serves as the secretariat to the EPI, an alliance of 22 African countries with common policies on elephant conservation. Formed in 2014 by the leaders of Botswana, Chad, Ethiopia, Gabon and Tanzania, the EPI has grown rapidly since. Nigeria joined in 2018. The Leadership Council, comprised of eminent African politicians and conservationists, provides guidance and advice to the Foundation.
